Progressive Foundation Of Human Rights Celebrates International Women’s Day At Hotel Citizen, Juhu, Mumbai

Mumbai, 08.3.2025: On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2025, the Progressive Foundation of Human Rights (PFHR) organised National Convention on International Women’s Day – “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment”, March 08, 2025 at Hotel Citizen, Juhu, Mumbai. Amar Shaheed Mangal Pandey Memorial Awards Of Excellence Were Also Presented To Eminent Personalities For Their Invaluable Contribution To The Society. International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on the 8th of March every year around the world. It is a focal point in the movement for women’s rights. After women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917, March 8 was predominantly celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries until it was adopted by the feminist movement in about 1967. The United Nations began celebrating the day in 1977. On the occasion of International Women’s Day on 8th March, 2025, the Progressive Foundation of Human Rights (PFHR) organised a National Convention on the theme of the International Day – “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment” at Hotel Citizen, Juhu, Mumbai, wherein renowned personalities of the country and representatives from 28 states participated. This National Convention is being organised by Progressive Foundation of Human Rights for the last 19 years. “Let us celebrate the birth of the girl child. We should be equally proud of our daughters. I urge you to sow five plants when your daughter is born to celebrate the occasion,” said honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji. Women are underprivileged in different ways in different societies. The causes of suppression of women — social, economic and political — are deep within not only Indian culture, but many cultures throughout the world. Violations of human rights of women have varied manifestations. The majority of crimes against women under the Indian penal code were cruelty by husband or his relatives (31.4 per cent) followed by kidnapping and abduction of women (19.2 per cent), assault on women with intent to outrage her modesty (18.7per cent) ,and rape (7.1per cent),the NCRB stated. It is high time that the society at large wake up and understand that it can’t survive without respecting women and no society can be called a civilised society if it disrespects the womenfolk.
